This program will offer youth of all abilities the opportunity to be involved in a competitive, team building sport. The swim coach will assign swimmers to a group after tryouts. To set up a tryout, date and time, please call the Bartlett Recreation Center at (901) 385-6470 and ask for Dick Fadgen.
Swim Coach Biographies Coach Dick Fadgen Coach Dick Fadgen had a great career as a swimmer. Some high points came when he won 7 national championships, broke two world records, swam in the Pan-American games, and was the NCAA National Champion in 1955 for the 200 Butterfly and the 200 Breaststroke. He began coaching in North Carolina, after which he founded the Memphis swim club (now Memphis Tigers). While at Memphis, he coached three Olympians, many National Champions, and over 90 National qualifiers. He came to BXST in 2006, retired from full-time coaching, but still active in the sport. He loves Italian food, good country music, and funny quotes.
Assistant Coach Amanda Galbraith
Coach Amanda Galbraith has been swimming before she knew how to walk and has been an assistant coach for Bartlett Xtreme Swimming since 2003. She loves teaching new swimmers and making experienced swimmers swim faster and longer than they ever thought possible. Galbraith teaches Visual Art for Shelby County Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Memphis College of Art; and a Masters of Education and Education Specialist degree from UnionUniversity. She also coaches the MemphisHomeEducationAssociationHigh School and Middle School Swim Teams.Galbraith can also be spotted competing in races including 5K runs, half-marathons, and adventure races.
Assistant Coach Rachel West
Coach Rachel West is a home-grown swimmer. During her Junior and Senior years, while swimming for BoltonHigh School, West qualified for the State competition. She also swam for the BXST, while under the supervision of Coach Rich Suhs. West is now the Head Coach for the Bolton High School Swim Team and is the newest member of the BXST coaching staff. Rachel is a student at the University of Memphis and is majoring in Exercise Science. When not at school, or on the deck coaching, you can find Rachel playing Co-ed Softball for the BartlettRecreationCenter.
