Cop's Corner with Captain Cupp

Captain David G. Cupp

Captain Cupp is the Traffic Division Commander for the Bartlett Police Department.

Each week Captain Cupp will provide citizens of Bartlett with information useful to Bartlett residents concerning traffic and public safety and little known facts about the Bartlett Police Department.

The Topic this week is: Speeders in the Neighborhoods

I receive on a regular basis complaints of people speeding in the neighborhoods and they want something done about it. So what do we do about it? After I take the complaint I put the complaint out to all of our Traffic Officers to frequent that location and enforce any speeding violations they see happening there. I will also notify our Patrol Officers working that area of the complaint so they too can frequent the locations. So problem solved? Not hardly. We have so many neighborhoods in Bartlett all sharing the exact same complaint and each and every one wants the problem taken care of now. Most of the speeding occurs during rush hour in the neighborhoods and along with speeding during rush hour comes another problem (Auto Accidents).

While you may notice an Officer operating radar on your street you will also notice him having to leave as soon as he gets set up because he is going to an accident. Here lies the vicious circle. So keep in mind we do hear your complaints and we are constantly working to reduce both the speeders and the auto accidents.

Be safe and as always contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
