Cop's Corner with Captain Cupp

Captain David G. Cupp

Captain Cupp is the Traffic Division Commander for the Bartlett Police Department. Each week Captain Cupp will provide citizens of Bartlett with information useful to Bartlett residents concerning traffic and public safety and little known facts about the Bartlett Police Department.

This week's topic:
Window Tint

We all have seen vehicles on the street with windows that are “Blacked Out”. My view on this is that it’s illegal and very dangerous. It’s illegal because not more than 35% of the light is not to be blocked out. It’s dangerous because when we as Police Officers approach a vehicle we can not see inside the vehicle and do not know what to expect. I have even seen vehicles that have the front windshield blacked out. No tint except factory tint is allowed on the front windshield. I feel like if you have to have all of your windows blacked out that you are trying to hide your activity inside the vehicle. Our Officers have been told to seek out these vehicles and cite them to court for their safety and ours.

This continues to be a problem in Bartlett and to help you with your window tint concerns I invite you to come by The Bartlett Police Department on Appling Road during regular business hours to have me or an officer check your window so it will not be a surprise for you later on.

Any Traffic Questions or Concerns feel free to contact me at my email address.

Thanks and Be Safe.
