Cop's Corner with Captain Cupp

Captain David G. Cupp

Captain Cupp is the Traffic Division Commander for the Bartlett Police Department. Each week Captain Cupp will provide citizens of Bartlett with information useful to Bartlett residents concerning traffic and public safety and little known facts about the Bartlett Police Department.

This week's topic:
Cell Phones

Have you noticed all of the people driving lately talking on their cell phones? I’ll share another discovery I have made also, about one third of all our crashes now are the result of the drivers either being on the phone or trying to enter information on the phone while driving. We as police Officers while taking crash reports now have a category to list if the drivers were distracted by using a cell phone. I would hope that the law makers of this state after receiving this information would restrict the use of cell phones while driving. July of this year the state has made it illegal to text while driving which they should. Now the next problem to address is the use of the cell phone while driving. We as Police Officers when we observe erratic driving because of a cell phone will cite the driver with Failure to Devote Full Attention to ones driving.

This day and time driving is more difficult than ever so lets not make this task even harder.
