Cop's Corner with Captain Cupp

Captain David G. Cupp

Captain Cupp is the Traffic Division Commander for the Bartlett Police Department. Each week Captain Cupp will provide citizens of Bartlett with information useful to Bartlett residents concerning traffic and public safety and little known facts about the Bartlett Police Department.

This week's topic:
Traffic Accidents

If you are involved in an auto accident the State Law regarding this allows the drivers involved to move the vehicles to a place of safety close to the accident scene. This will clear the street to allow traffic to resume its normal flow. Exception to this rule is if the drivers are involved in an altercation or there is evidence of drugs or alcohol.

If the cars can be moved safely, do this then call the police. So many people feel that when they are involved in an accident the cars are to remain where they came to rest; this is not so. Remember also to contact your Insurance Company of the accident even if you are not at fault. They in turn will notify the Department of Safety on your behalf that at the time of the accident you had an accident policy in effect as the law requires.

As always if you have questions or comments of me just email me with your concerns
