Cop's Corner with Captain Cupp

Captain David G. Cupp

Captain Cupp is the Traffic Division Commander for the Bartlett Police Department.

Each week Captain Cupp will provide citizens of Bartlett with information useful to Bartlett residents concerning traffic and public safety and little known facts about the Bartlett Police Department.

The Topic this week is:  "In Car Cameras"

You have probably noticed by now everyone has access to a camera of some kind. So many reality shows on TV depend on the use of these cameras for their very existence. Not to mention the evening news both local and national. The technology is here whether it be a good thing or a bad thing.

Well thank goodness Technology has also arrived at the Bartlett Police Department in the way of "In Car Cameras". I personally think that this is not a good thing but a GREAT thing. In the past we had to rely on the statements of the Police Officer and Citizen when a complaint came forth. We just did the best we could in investigating the facts of a complaint, but not anymore. These In Car Cameras are very expensive and Bartlett has had to slowly incorporate them into our fleet of Police Cars.

Now when someone gets pulled over by the Police or any other situation that would require evidence gathering we have the capability to do just that. These cameras gather both the audio and the video of what was said and done at that location. So when a complaint or a need for evidence comes into play we may have exactly what we need whereas before we did not.

So the next time you get pulled over for a traffic violation're on "In Car Camera"
Feel free to contact me with your Traffic concerns and be safe,
