The City of Bartlett named Tommy Gately its Fire Chief on January 13, 2023. Chief Gately is a longtime resident of Bartlett and a proud graduate of Bartlett High School. He began his career as a firefighter in early 2000. He was promoted to EMS Lieutenant in 2008 and to Assistant Fire Chief in 2018. Chief Gately holds an associate’s degree from Southwest Tennessee Community College (Paramedic), a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida (Fire and Emergency Services), and a master’s degree from Arkansas State University (Public Administration). He is also a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program through the National Fire Academy.
Chief Gately’s pursuit of formal education and certifications compliment the experience he has gained throughout his career. He is team-oriented and eager to build upon the Bartlett Fire Department’s strong history, as well as the tremendous progress of previous administrations. Chief Gately is dedicated to his family, which is his driving force. He is married to Callie (Shaver) Gately, and they have two children (Emma and Parker). They are members of Bellevue Baptist Church and enjoy worshipping and spending time together. Family activities include lake weekends, golf, and pickleball.
