1. How do I start new water service?

New service may be initiated by one of the following options. You may also call our office @ 901-385-5585 for information.

Option 1 (Remote): Fill out this Form to request an application be sent to you to complete and sign electronically. You may also call our office to request an online application be sent to you.

Option 2 (Download & visit): Click on one of the following forms, fill out, print and bring to City Hall along with required documents.

• Residential Application for new service
• Commercial Application for new service

Option 3 (Onsite): Come into City Hall to sign up for service and bring required documents.

Required Documents for initiating service:

TWO (2) FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION FOR EACH APPLICANT FROM THE LIST BELOW ARE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT AND COMMENCE WATER SERVICE. THE FOLLOWING FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION, ONE OF WHICH MUST BE A PICTURE FORM OF IDENTIFICATION, ARE ACCEPTABLE: OFFICIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR STATE ID CARD (ISSUED BY STATE AS ID IN PLACE OF DRIVER’S LICENSE) • FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION CARD (PASSPORT AND/OR VISA, ALIEN REGISTRATION CARD) • MILITARY DISCHARGE PAPERS • VOTER’S REGISTRATION CARD • CERTIFIED COPY OF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE • IRS INDIVIDUAL TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER CARD • MUNICIPAL, STATE OR FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT ID • MEDICAID OR MEDICARE IDENTIFICATION CARDS • STATE-ISSUED HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSE • STATE-ISSUED GUN PERMIT OR LICENSE • SOCIAL SECURITY CARD • EBT (ELECTRONIC BENEFITS TRANSFER CARD) • CONSULAR ID CARDS. 2. How do I cancel my existing service?

To cancel your existing service, please call our office @ 901-385-5585 during normal business hours Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

3. How often will I receive a Water Bill?

You will be billed once a month in the form of an 8.5 x 11 billing statement . Customers may opt to receive the billing statement via email.  Your consumption is calculated by subtracting last month's water meter reading from the current month's reading.

5. Where can I pay my Water Bill and what forms of payment are accepted?

Bartlett Water Bill Payment methods and locations: Please return the bottom portion of your bill statement with your payment in order to ensure accurate processing. 

** Cash ONLY is accepted as payment for services that have been disconnected for non-payment or for returned checks. Payment must be made in person. 

Acceptable forms of payment:

Payments by Check (payable to Bartlett Water Department) may be: 

• Mailed to Bartlett Water Department, PO Box 341027, Bartlett, TN 38184-1027,
• Made in person at Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Road,
• Deposited in the Drop Box located in the parking lot behind Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Road (available 24hrs. a day) 

Payments by Cash may be: 

• Made in person at Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Road.

Payments by Bank Draft: 

• Bank Drafts are processed on the due date which appears on your monthly water statement. There is no charge to the customer for this service. 

Payments by Credit Card:

• Made online at www.cityofbartlett.org/onlinepayments
• Made in person at Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Road.
• Recurring Automatic Credit Card payment service enrollment available online from within your account

6. How do I enroll for automated Bank Draft?

Enrollment in Automatic Bank Draft can be done from one of the following methods:

Online while signed in to your account @ www.cityofbartlett.org/onlinepayments  

In person at Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Rd

By Mail (Follow steps below):

1. Print and complete the Bank Draft Authorization form including signatures. 
2. Attach a voided check 
3. Return above items either by mail or in person to: Bartlett Water Department 6400 Stage Road PO Box 341027 Bartlett, TN 38184-1027 

**NOTE: Your water account must have a zero balance to enroll in the bank draft program. For questions, call the Water Department at 901-385-5585.

7. What is the Family Funds Donation Program?

In response to the critical needs of the Bartlett citizens, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen established a program to promote neighbors helping neighbors called Family Funds. The Family Funds program gives Bartlett's water customers the opportunity to add $1 or more to their monthly water bill to help a neighbor in need.

By adding $1 or more to your water bill, you can help prevent the termination of a cancer patient's water service or a family's electricity. The Family Assistance Commission oversees and distributes the money donated to the Family Funds program. The Commission's sole purpose is to identify Bartlett individuals and families whose health, safety, and general welfare are clearly in jeopardy and help those in need with finding the best assistance.

8. How do I enroll in the Family Funds Donation Program?

To enroll in the Family Funds Donation program, complete the following steps:

9. How do I shut off my water in case of emergency or repair?

Your water meter is located in the ground near the street or curb. A special 'key' tool or a pair of pliers may be used to turn the water off. Newer homes have a master cut off which is usually painted blue and located inside of the house.

10. Why is my water bill so high due to a leaky toilet?

A running or malfunctioning toilet can consume a remarkable amount of water during a short period of time. Check and repair quickly. The Water Department can help with a one-time leak adjustment to your water bill. Contact the Water Department at (901) 385-5585 immediately if this occurs.

12. What is the City Service Fee?

The City Service Fee was adopted with Ordinance #84-18 in August 1984. The service fee was levied at “$2.50 per month against each household and place of business within the city limits.”   Another ordinance #87-3 in March 1987 waived this fee for citizens of the City of Bartlett who had been granted relief by the State of Tennessee Property Tax Relief Agency.

The resulting revenue has been used for various expenditures (street paving, library books, solid waste control, reappraisal cost, etc.). Since FY2002, this fund has been used to support IT-related services. 

That funding need has risen from $60,629 in FY2002 to over $1M for FY2025. Through that span, those Information Technology Expenditures totaled $8,014,969, and today, the General Improvement Fund is used as the primary funding source for Information Technology Services. 

13. Why do I have to pay a Stormwater Fee?

The City is responsible for providing and maintaining infrastructure for drainage and flood control as well as compliance with new Federal and State regulations on water quality. This includes installation and maintenance of storm drains, inlets, and ditches as well as ensuring State programs such as erosion and sediment control are provided on construction sites. These services are done to protect private and public property as well as provide for a healthy environment. Funding is not provided by Federal or State government for these services.
